Magnetoresistance of Two-Dimensional Fermions in a Random Magnetic Field.
We perform a semiclassical calculation of the magnetoresistance of spinless two-dimensional fermions in a long-range correlated random magnetic field. In the regime relevant for the problem of the half filled Landau level the perturbative Born approximation fails and we develop a new method of solving the Boltzmann equation beyond the relaxation time approximation. In absence of interactions, e...
متن کاملGiant Magnetoresistance Induced by Magnetic Barriers
We present experimental results for hybrid ferromagnet/semiconductor devices in which 2D electrons propagate through sub-micron width magnet barriers. Magnetoresistances, , of 1000% are found at low temperatures and 1% at room temperature. We compared the measured behavior with numerical calculations and give the conditions needed to achieve large room temperature .
متن کاملMagnetic Field Induced Ordering in Quasi-One-Dimensional Quantum Magnets
Three-dimensional magnetic ordering transitions are studied theoretically in strongly anisotropic quantum magnets. An external magnetic field can drive quasi-one-dimensional subsystems with a spin gap into a gapless regime, thus inducing long-range three-dimensional magnetic ordering due to weak residual magnetic coupling between the subsystems. Compounds with higher spin degrees of freedom, su...
متن کاملHigh magnetic field induced charge density wave state in a quasi-one-dimensional organic conductor.
The quasi-one-dimensional organic conductor (Per)2Pt(mnt)2 exhibits a charge density wave ground state below 8 K. Magnetoresistance and magnetization measurements show that the charge density wave is suppressed with magnetic fields of order 20 T, above which a high resistance state, with a cascade of subphases, appears. This new state, tentatively identified as a field induced charge density wa...
متن کاملSlow oscillations of magnetoresistance in quasi-two-dimensional metals.
Slow oscillations of the interlayer magnetoresistance observed in the layered organic metal beta-(BEDT-TTF)(2)IBr(2) are shown to originate from the slight warping of its Fermi surface rather than from independent small cyclotron orbits. Unlike the usual Shubnikov-de Haas effect, these oscillations are not affected by the temperature smearing of the Fermi distribution and can therefore become d...
